Responsibilities & Services
Gulf Shores Fire Rescue provides a full range of fire and emergency services to the residents and visitors of Gulf Shores. In addition to being sworn Firefighters, 85 percent of our staff are licensed Paramedics. This advanced level of certification allows us to provide top-level emergency medical responses 24 hours a day.
Emergency calls in Gulf Shores are dispatched by Baldwin Central 911. This allows for reduced response times with Baldwin Central answering the call simultaneously while initiating a page to us. As they continue to collect information from the caller, those critical details are relayed to our teams while they are in transit and allow for a faster reaction once on the scene.
Operations
Fire
The Fire Division operates three 24-hour shifts. The shifts are A-Shift, B-Shift and C-Shift. Each “shift” works from 7AM to 7AM.
We have (4) four fully staffed Fire Rescue stations distributed across the city with at least (4) four Firefighters on duty in each station 24 hours a day.
Beach
The Beach Division operates (1) one Beach Safety Headquarters with (36) thirty six seasonal Lifeguard positions, (6) six full-time Lifeguard 2 positions, (5) five full-time Beach Rescue Lieutenants and a Beach Safety Chief. GSFR Lifeguards are USLA certified and at a minimum EMR certified with 68 % of them having a higher level of medical training including Paramedic, RNs and EMTs. The Beach Safety Headquarters is responsible for 12 seasonal Lifeguard towers and responds to emergencies in our waters and on our beaches.
