Gulf Shores Fire Rescue (GSFR) is offering a variety of public education courses in 2022. These courses are through the American Heart Association and range from basic First Aid training to more advanced classes such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Each class costs $26 and will take place at Gulf Shores Fire Station 1, located at 1921 West 1st St. Public education courses offered by GSFR include:

Heartsaver
Heartsaver courses cover First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training. These courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs first aid and/or CPR training and a course completion card for a job or other regulatory licensing requirements. Heartsaver courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared to act in an emergency.

Basic Life Support (BLS)
These courses are designed for in-facility hospital providers and prehospital providers, such as emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and firefighters. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support
These courses are geared towards healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiovascular emergencies or personnel in emergency response. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support
PALS courses are designed for healthcare providers who respond to infant and children emergencies and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years.

“We encourage members of our community to take advantage of these courses,” said GSFR Emergency Medical Services Officer, Nick Russell. “Whether you need a specific course for your job, or you are looking for basic CPR training so you are prepared to act in the time of an emergency, we are offering a variety of classes to meet everyone’s needs.”
