City Council Work Sessions & Regular Meetings

Council Chambers at City Hall

Work session meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Regular meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Council Chambers. The public is encouraged to attend.

Planning Commission Meetings

The Planning Commission meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.

Zoning Board of Adjustment Meeting

The Zoning Board of Adjustment meetings are once a month, either on the fifth or first Tuesday of each month, at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.

Board of Education Work Session & Regular Meetings

Regular Meeting - 5 p.m. at the Council Chambers

The Board of Education holds their work session meetings on the first Thursday of every month at the Gulf Shores High School Library at 4 p.m. These meetings are open to the public. The Board of Education holds their regular meetings on the second Thursday of every month in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 5 p.m. These meetings are open to the public.

Pickleball

Cultural Center Gymnasium

The Gulf Shores Recreation Department is happy to offer Pickleball to our 55+ community. Pickleball is held every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the months of August thru May. Games will be played from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Cultural Center Gymnasium. For more information, please click here

Storytime with Ms. Amy
Every Thursday

Thomas B. Norton Public Library

Join Ms. Amy at the Thomas B. Norton Public Library for Storytime every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend. Sunset Series: “The Trio” from Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival
September 12

Gulf Place Town Green & Public Beach

“The Trio”, featuring Carl Jackson, Jerry Salley and Larry Cordle, will take the stage at Gulf Place on September 12 as a preview to the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival. Carl Jackson has recorded hundreds of songs with sales in excess of 40 million units. Jackson has been inducted into the Mississippi Musician’s Hall of Fame and has been honored by the state with an official Country Music Trail Marker in his hometown of Louisville. Jerry Salley, referred to by Billboard Magazine as “one of Music Row’s greatest veteran tunesmiths,” has had an incredibly successful songwriting career. Salley has had over 450 songs recorded in his multi-award winning career. To date Salley’s songs have sold in excess of 15.5 million records worldwide and internationally he has penned no less than seven (7) #1 Country hits in Australia. Larry Cordle is a Kentucky Music Hall of Fame member, whose career has seen him garner a number of awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association including the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America 2018 Songwriter of the Year and several Grammy nominations. Cordle’s songs have appeared on projects that have to date sold a combined total of more than 55 million records. Admission for the concert is free to the public. Purely Paddle

Mo’s Landing

Purely Paddle is scheduled for September 14! This is a fun, family friendly guided kayak adventure along with yoga on the lawn. The event starts at 4 p.m. and lasts until 7 p.m. The cost is $10 to rent a kayak or free to those who bring their own kayak. There will be healthy snacks and refreshments provided. Sunset Series: Jimmy Lumpkin Band

On September 19, Jimmy Lumpkin will belt out sublime sounds that are altogether his own. Straight out of a log cabin in South Alabama, Lumpkin is a singer/songwriter and guitarist with an intoxicating voice and a stirring union of Rock & Soul, Folk-Blues and the flare of a long-remembered era of old Country music. With the voice of a 100-year-old angel from the delta, the soul found in Lumpkin’s music is like no other. Music from a point of view you have never heard before. In the likes of Bob Dylan, Ray LaMontagne, Ryan Adams, Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, The Black Keys, and Otis Redding, the Jimmy Lumpkin Band plays an eclectic blend of soulful roots rock and Americana. Sunset Series: John Hart Band

Florida-based artist John Hart will wrap up the 2019 Sunset Series on September 26. Hart is an acclaimed guitar player all along the East Coast and Gulf Coast. Leading up to his creation of John Hart Project, John spent a few years touring the East Coast with the prominent Sauce Boss. The warm, rich tones of John’s classical guitar playing approach brings an exciting and fresh presence to his live show, while his unique weaving of finger picking and blues influence brings a flavor to the sound like no other. Revered as a young man beyond his time, John’s influences come from a mix of blues legends such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Albert Collins, to rock legends Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman to modern monsters such as Derek Trucks and John Mayer. Join the Gulf Shores Recreation Department for the perfect family outing at Mo's Landing - Camping 101! There will be fire pits (perfect for hot dogs and s'mores) and an outdoor movie. Camping 101 will be held on September 27-28 and October 25-26 from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. The cost is $30 per tent or $20 if you bring your own tent. For more information, please click here.

Bodenhamer Recreation Center and Cultural Center – Studio Fitness

Calling all Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tiger fans! The Gulf Shores Recreation Department is excited to announce the Bike to the Bowl Challenge, a free 8-week fitness program that will challenge you to bike 240 miles to the Iron Bowl in the span of 8 weeks beginning on October 5 and ending on November 30. Participants may bike outside or use indoor stationary bikes, but must log their miles weekly at the Bodenhamer Center or Cultural Center. All individuals who complete the challenge will receive a visor in their favorite team’s color and will be eligible for entries in random prize drawings. For more information, please click here.

Mom’s Time Out

Mom's Time Out is designed to stimulate social interaction and to allow free time to parents of young children. Mom's Time Out will be every Monday and Thursday from September 9 to April 30. Parents may bring their children (ages 1-4) to the Cultural Center from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for outdoor/indoor activities, crafts, games and much more! Class sizes are small, and space is limited! The cost is $100 per month (for only Mondays or for only Thursdays) OR $175 a month (for both Mondays and Thursdays). For more information, please click here.

Gulf Shores Goes Pink

Gulf Shores is going PINK this October! Please join us for a Community Gathering & Barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, at the Gulf Shores Fire Department, located at 1921 West 1st Street. The Gulf Shores Fire Department will be grilling hot dogs, and ALL donations will go to the Guardians of The Ribbon - Lower Alabama Chapter. Women’s Self Defense

The Gulf Shores Recreation Department is hosting a Women’s Self Defense series for women ages 12 and up. Classes will include techniques to defend yourself at home and in public, holding and shooting a firearm, and more! This program is FREE to the public, but there are limited spots available. 48th Annual National Shrimp Festival

The Annual National Shrimp Festival is a project of the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber. For 48 years this volunteer-driven event has been a Gulf Shores tradition. ClubGST

The Gulf Shores Recreation Department is excited to announce a new recreation program, Gulf Shores Teen Club (ClubGST), beginning in October of 2019. ClubGST is open to children in grades 6-9. ClubGST will meet after school every Friday during the months of October 2019-April 2020 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Transportation from school to the Cultural Center will be provided. The registration cost for ClubGST is $40 per month. Each month will feature a new theme of activities. The schedule is as follows: October – Sports Theme, November – Cooking Theme, December – Handcrafting, January – City Operations, February – Aquatics, March – Fitness and April – College Inspiration. The City of Gulf Shores is excited to announce the Wild and Wicked Beach Bash coming to Gulf Place Public Beach. Locals and visitors are invited to wear their best Halloween costume and participate in this horrifyingly fun event featuring a Haunted Hustle 5K, Witches on Wheels, and live music from Fly By Radio! The Witches on Wheels Bike Parade will begin at 6 p.m. The Haunted Hustle 5K Walk/Run will begin at 6:30 p.m. The FREE after-party with live music from Fly By Radio will begin at 8 p.m. For more information, please click here.

The Thomas B. Norton Public Library is excited to welcome Lynne Hilton, author of Callie Comes Home, to the library for a book signing event. Lynne will be signing her book, Callie Comes Home. “Callie Comes Home” is the first fictional novel submitted for publication. It is a true work of love that she believes others will relate to concerning obstacles in their lives. The message is one of learning from the past and overcoming hardships. 10th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade & Holiday Celebration
December 6

Highway 59 to Sims Park

The 10th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade will feature festive lighted floats, as well as appearances from holiday characters and marching bands. Large crowds of spectators looking to bask in the holiday spirit are anticipated along Highway 59 as parade entries make their way from Gulf Shores Public Beach to the Sims Park. The magical atmosphere from parade will roll continuously into the night as a celebration at the Sims Park will kick off immediately following the parade. Families can enjoy pictures with Santa, holiday treats, crafts and a 5th Annual snowball drop. It will be a man-made blizzard as 4,000 ping pong balls will be dropped from above by Santa. Winning snowball will have a number that correlates with a prize supplied by our generous sponsors.For more information, please click here.

The Nutcracker

The Coastal Ballet Academy presents the Nutcracker on Sunday, December 8. Under the direction of Madame Rio Cordy Barlow the ballet academy will bring this classic holiday ballet to life. Baldwin Pops Christmas Concert

On December 10, the City of Gulf Shores will open its doors to host the Baldwin Pops for a traditional Christmas Concert. The Baldwin Pops is an organization of volunteer musicians whose mission is to share music in a concert band format free of charge to the citizens of Baldwin County. Pictures with Santa will be available during intermission in the lobby for $5. Baldwin Pops Concerts are a collection site for the US Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program. Breakfast with Santa

Children will have one last minute chance to visit with Santa on Saturday, December 21, as Gulf Shores hosts Breakfast with Santa at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center. Beginning at 8 a.m., families can dive into a wholesome breakfast complete with sausage, bacon, eggs and pancakes. Admission for Breakfast with Santa is $5.00, while children 3 and under are free.
