The Thomas B. Norton Public Library is excited to welcome Lynne Hilton, author of Callie Comes Home, to the library for a book signing event. Lynne will be signing her book, Callie Comes Home. “Callie Comes Home” is the first fictional novel submitted for publication. It is a true work of love that she believes others will relate to concerning obstacles in their lives. The message is one of learning from the past and overcoming hardships.

The Gulf Shores Recreation Department is hosting a Women’s Self Defense series for women ages 12 and up. Classes will include techniques to defend yourself at home and in public, holding and shooting a firearm, and more! This program is FREE to the public, but there are limited spots available.

The City of Gulf Shores is excited to welcome United Nations Art Ambassador Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao to the Cultural Center on Saturday, November 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. for his presentation of “My Fireflies, An Island Experience.” Locals & visitors are invited to join Ibi for a night of art, culture, storytelling and inspiration.
Ibi is an artist, filmmaker and author who represented his country, Nigeria, and became the first place winner of the prestigious United Nations International Art Competition amongst 61 countries. Ibi’s works have received worldwide recognition and are currently on tour in the United States. His paintings have been exhibited at a broad list of countries and places, including The National Museum of Nigeria, the Martin Luther King Art Center, the Nigerian Embassy, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Cultures, the Queensborough Library International Resource Center, the United Nations headquarters, the World Bank headquarters, and the Empire State Building.

Calling all Active Adults: Join the Gulf Shores Recreation Department for Silver Sneakers Chair Fitness! Classes will be located in the Cultural Center Gymnasium at 2 p.m. every Monday. The Chair Fitness class is FREE to those with RecPass or FitPass memberships. The cost is $10 for non-members. The Gulf Shores Recreation Department invites you to join us for a Flower Arrangement Class, led by McKenzie Street Florist and Specialty Rental, on Tuesday, November 19. The project will be making a Thanksgiving Cornucopia. Class begins at 2 p.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. Registration ends on November 12. Registration for the annual Thanksgiving Break Camp will open on October 1. Children in grades K-6 are invited to come spend the week playing games and participating in indoor/outdoor activities. The cost for Thanksgiving Break Camp is $50 for RecPass members and $60 for non-members. This cost includes craft materials and a field trip.
