The City of Gulf Shores received an upgraded ISO Public Protection Classification grade of 1. This is the highest rating from ISO whose primary goal is to rate fire prevention within a city. Less than 1% of communities throughout the United States and only a handful throughout the state of Alabama have achieved this top rating. The City of Gulf Shores is the only #1 rated community south of Montgomery, Alabama.
According to ISO, a community’s investment in fire mitigation is a proven and reliable predictor of future fire losses. Fire Chief Hartly Brokenshaw stated, “I would like to thank the Mayor and City Council for their support with strategic budgeting for equipment, personnel and training over the years which has allowed us to achieve the highest ISO classification.” Brokenshaw further states, “The upgraded classification will benefit business and residences with potential insurance rate reductions as well as peace of mind.”
