The City of Gulf Shores is preparing to begin Phase 2 of the Waterway East project, thanks to a RESTORE grant that covers all construction costs.

𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭: Extend the section from 2nd Street to the edge of ALDOT’s right-of-way for the new SR-161 road and bridge.

𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮 (Coming Soon): Extend Waterway East to connect with SR-161 north of the new bridge.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁?

• Waiting on DCNR to issue a Notice to Proceed

• Construction anticipated to begin in March and finish by the end of summer

• Project must be completed before the grant deadline in September

• The grant reimburses Gulf Shores for all eligible costs

• Yellow = ALDOT SR-161 road & bridge

• Blue = Phase 1 of Waterway East

• Red = Phase 2 of Waterway East

The new Waterway Village Pedestrian Bridge is a component of the BUILD Grant Project. The new bridge will connect the north and south sides of the Waterway District. Click here to learn more.

The City is currently planning habitat restoration work and the design of limited, passive recreational access facilities on 53 undeveloped acres of property located on the south shore of Little Lagoon near the west end of W. Beach Blvd.
