Gulf Shores' Second Annual "Gulf Shores Gives Back" Day Returns to Unite Community in Service

Following last year's tremendous success with over 3,000 participants and 100+ completed projects, Gulf Shores City Schools announces its second annual "Gulf Shores Gives Back" day, scheduled for February 27, 2025. This community-wide day of service invites everyone in Gulf Shores to join forces to make a positive impact across the city.

"Gulf Shores Gives Back represents the heart of our community," says Dr. Matt Akin, Superintendent of Gulf Shores City Schools. "We're building on the incredible momentum from last year, when thousands of volunteers showed what we can accomplish together." Assistant Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Harrison adds, “Gulf Shores Gives Back is more than just a day of service; it’s about fostering a culture of giving back, building connections, and celebrating the spirit of our beautiful city.”

The initiative, led by the Gulf Shores City Schools' Mental Health Advisory Committee, offers multiple ways for community members to participate:

  1. Create Your Own Service Project: Residents and organizations are encouraged to plan and execute service projects in their neighborhoods or communities.
  2. Sponsor School Projects: Community members can support student initiatives by sponsoring essential supplies such as gloves for beach cleanups, materials for first responder gift baskets, and resources for meal preparation projects.
  3. Join a Community Project: Through the Volunteer Sign Up Form at www.gsboe.org/gsgivesback, community members can choose from various pre-organized service opportunities throughout the city.

Students and teachers have already committed to numerous projects, including beach cleanups, park revitalization efforts, building a sensory trail in Gulf State Park, meal deliveries to those in need, and activities at local nursing homes. Student-led initiatives continue to grow, with school counselors supporting additional project ideas from motivated students.

In case of inclement weather, activities will move to the backup date of February 28, 2025.

For more information about Gulf Shores Gives Back 2025, to register a project, or to sign up as a volunteer, visit www.gsboe.org/gsgivesback or contact Dr. Stephanie Harrison at sharrison@gsboe.org.
