City of Gulf Shores Planning & Zoning, Public Works, and Recreation & Cultural Affairs Departments teamed up this week to plant 45 Willow Oaks (Quercus phellos) along the south side of 22nd Avenue and the east side of 3rd Street, adjacent to Sims Park. These locally grown trees were selected for their resilience, aesthetic value, and long-term environmental benefits.
This initiative is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing green spaces and promoting sustainable urban forestry. Funding for this project is made possible through the Tree Protection and Landscaping Fund, which is supported by fees collected from tree removal permits and enforcement of the City’s Tree Protection Ordinance. This reinvestment into the community’s natural landscape reflects the City’s dedication to preserving and expanding its urban forest.
The City of Gulf Shores remains committed to responsible environmental stewardship and encourages residents to take pride in the growing urban canopy that enhances quality of life for all.
