The City of Gulf Shores is celebrating 39 years of being named a Tree City with its 39th Annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway, presented by the Gulf Shores Beautification Board. This event will take place on Saturday, February 21, at the Gulf Coast Eco Center (1650 Eco Trl, Gulf Shores, AL 36542), from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., or until all trees have been distributed.
Residents of each household that reside within the Gulf Shores corporate limits may select three different trees from five different varieties:
- Live Oak (Quercus virginiana)
- Willow Oak (Quercus phellos)
- Nuttal Oak (Quercus texana)
- Shumard Oak (Quercus shumardii)
- Overcup Oak (Quercus Lyrata)
To receive the trees, residents must show proof of residency. There will also be a limited number of fruit trees available. The city's tree experts, including City Arborist Chuck Owens and the Gulf Shores Landscape Division team, will be on hand to share planting tips and answer questions. Each tree comes in a ready-to-plant three-gallon container, and residents will receive detailed care guides to ensure their new trees thrive.
Attendees are also invited to tour the new Eco Center campus and learn how they can get involved in local conservation programs.
