The City of Gulf Shores will begin a project to resurface and renovate the 12 outdoor hard courts located at Sims Park, adjacent to the George C. Meyer Tennis Center, on Monday, August 12.
The nearly $75,000 project is expected to last 6 – 8 weeks and will include the resurfacing of all 12 hard court surfaces, installation of new net posts and fencing on courts 1 – 6, and new windscreens throughout the complex.
“This project will provide some much needed upgrades to our outdoor tennis courts,” said Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Grant Brown. “We are excited to get the work underway and look forward to providing our community with some of the nicest courts in the area.”
The George C. Meyer Tennis Center consists of a total of 18 USTA regulation tennis courts, including 4 covered hydrocourts, 2 outdoor hyrdocourts, and 12 outdoor hard courts. All courts are free to the public and are available 7 days a week on a first come, first served basis.
Individual court availability is expected to vary throughout the project. Brown encourages the public to contact the George C. Meyer Tennis Center to check court availability in advance at 251-968-1431.
