  7. Do you have any mental and/or physical impairments?

  8. Have you ever been convicted of a Misdemeanor or Felony?

  9. During this ride-along you will be a silent observer. We request that you do not reveal what you see or hear during the tour that could be detrimental to the prosecution of any cases arising from the officer's performance of duty. You may be called upon to be a witness in a court preceding and you may be called upon for assistance. The decision of this will rest upon the officer to whom you are assigned and the circumstances.

  11. RIDE-ALONG / OBSERVER PROGRAM RULES

  12. 1. Observers shall be under the immediate and direct control of the officer to which they are assigned and must obey that officer's direction at all times.

  13. 2. Observers must wear a seat belt at all times while in the police vehicle.

  14. 3. Observers must dress appropriately: "business casual" attire which is suitable for having public contact. Avoid: jeans, sweatshirts, sandals, etc.

  15. 4. Observers are not to engage in any police activity unless expressly directed to do so by an officer.

  16. 5. Observers are not to be armed with any manner of weapon.

  17. 6. Observers are to be identified upon request as observers and in no way are to be identified as having any police power.

  18. 7. If at any time during an observation period, the responsible officer or the officer in charge determines that it is appropriate to terminate the observer's participation; the observer must immediately comply.

  19. 8. It is advisable to bring enough money with you to purchase any food or refreshments you might want to consume while you are riding along. Generally, the officer will have the opportunity to take a short break and have a lunch period while you are together. If you wish to eat or drink something during these times you are expected to pay for them yourself.

  20. 9. Riders are observers and you will be under the direct supervision of a police employee. You must comply with all directions and orders given to you by any police employee. You are not to become involved in any incident, conversation, or altercations between police employees and the public.

  21. 10. You are expected to conduct yourself in a civil, personable, and courteous manner at all times.

  22. 11. You are to remain seated in the police vehicle unless the officer specifically tells you that you may accompany the officer.

  23. 12. In the event that the officer has to respond to a potentially dangerous situation or hazardous call, you may be dropped off at a safe location away from the incident. If this occurs you will be given specific instructions to follow and the officer will arrange for another police employee to pick you up.

  24. 13. You may not carry or use any weapon while you are on a Ride Along.

  25. 14. You may not carry or use any audio recording device, any video recording device, or other camera while you are on a Ride Along.

  27. RELEASE OF PERSONAL CRIMINAL HISTORY

  28. The City of Gulf Shores Police Department is hereby authorized to make any review, inquiry or investigation into my personal and criminal history through any investigative bureaus of its choice. I release all parties, including the City of Gulf Shores, the Gulf Shores Police Department, and their officials, officers, employees or representatives, from any and all liability for any injury or damage that may result from furnishing any personal or criminal history.

  29. I do hereby request the Gulf Shores Police Department, to release any and all information relating to my criminal record or history to the Gulf Shores Police Department or any other agency or employee of the City of Gulf Shores. I agree to release all parties from liability for any personal injury or damage that may result from furnishing the same to the City of Gulf Shores. I further agree to hold harmless any law enforcement agency or bureau which provides criminal record or history information pertaining to me to the City of Gulf Shores.

  31. COVENANT NOT TO SUE, PROMISE TO RELEASE OF LIABILITY ADULT APPLICANT'S CONSENT

  32. In consideration of permission which I have received to accompany one or more police officers of the Police Department, City of Gulf Shores, Alabama a municipal corporation, in the course of his or their duty. I, the undersigned, hereby release the City of Gulf Shores, its police officers, public officials, officers, servants, employees from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and causes of actions which I may hereafter have on account of any and all injuries to me or to my property, or my death, arising out of or related to any happening or occurrence while I am accompanying any officer or officers of the Gulf Shores Police Department on duty, or incidental thereto, and for the same consideration, I promise to release, and covenant not to sue the said City and the said persons, and agree to forever hold them and such of them harmless from any such liability, claims, demands, action or causes of action. THE TERMS hereof shall be of full force and effect on the date hereof and on any other occasion when I may hereafter accompany any Gulf Shores Police Department police officer or officers.

  33. I HAVE READ and understand the conditions of this program as stated above and hereby voluntarily assume all risk of loss, damage or injury to me or to my property, including death, which may be sustained while or incidental to accompanying one or more Gulf Shores Police Department police officers while on duty. THIS RELEASE AND AGREEMENT shall be binding upon me and my heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives and assigns, and shall inure to the benefit of the said City, officers, public officials, and persons herein designated, and their heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives, assigns and successors in office.
