Gulf Shores Fire Rescue (GSFR) was founded in 1957 as a volunteer fire department with the goal of protecting lives and property within the city of Gulf Shores. In 1976, GSFR established itself as a paid department and over the course of the past 48 years has done an exemplary job in the protection of its citizens and visitors.
The mission of the fire service nationwide has changed significantly over the past decades. With improvements to building construction, fire prevention programs, and fire code enforcement programs, we have significantly reduced the number of structure fires that we respond to. In fact, the United States Fire Administration reports a 22.7% reduction in residential fires over the past decade. Over the same period of reduction of fire response, most departments have accepted multiple roles and become all hazard response departments.
Along with other departments nationwide, GSFR has evolved through the years to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. With Advanced Life Support Engines, industry-leading ISO 1 classification, and an unmatched enthusiasm among its members to serve the community, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue is now on the threshold of becoming one of the elite Fire Rescue Departments in the country.
